Varna City Electric Power Plant - Diesel built in 1912-1914
Ref Number: 89
The building of the City Electric Power Plant was built in 1912-1914. Initially, five machines were planned for the production of electricity, but three diesel units from the Siemens-Schuckert company were installed. The three machines had names. The first machine is named after Vlada, the wife of engineer Totev, who died during the Balkan Wars, as a credit for the foundation of the power plant in Varna. The second machine is named Tsvetana – the wife of Varna’s mayor Al. Vassilev. The third machine is named Ana – the wife of the engineer in charge of the construction, Mr. Karchev.
The power plant was solemnly opened in January 1914. To this day, the old municipal coat of arms of Varna is preserved on its facade.
