On the coast of the Black Sea near Varna is the former summer palace of the Bulgarian monarchs – Euxinograd. On a terrace above the sea, there is a sundial from the 19th century, a gift from the British Queen Victoria. There is an inscription on the dial “Let others tell of storms and showers, I’ll only count your sunny hours”. Queen Victoria, her husband Prince Albert and the father of the Bulgarian king Ferdinand are first cousins, representatives of the dynasty of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.

Euxinograd is today an active government residence. To visit the complex, you must make a prior request by e-mail.
