The billeting of allied forces around Varna 1854 – 1855
Upon landing at Varna, the different contingents of French, Turkish, and British forces were spread out across a large region, with each country assigned its own territory.
August 23rd 1854
The entire French army (5 infantry divisions and one cavalry division) is concentrated around Varna together with the British army. Preparations are underway for a spectacular loading and embarkation of the ships. The purpose of the expedition directed to the Crimea was announced on August 25th and by a general order of the Marshal-in-Chief.
