Museum Old Varna

Dedicated proprietor and curator of the museum, Lambrin Sotirov, cordially invites you to partake in this enchanting journey into the past; as he interweaves numerous antiquity elements with images, his enthusiasm and expertise are a pleasure to behold.

The museum is housed in a 114-year-old structure with a unique atmosphere that serves as its backdrop. Featuring the inaugural permanent exhibition of remarkable photographs of the city from the XIX and XX centuries in Bulgaria, this tour transports guests back in time by more than a century.

Varna’s extremely advantageous location between Eurasia and Europe, the icy sea, the first Benz automobile, the contrast between horse-drawn carriages and Ford motor vehicles, and so forth, are all evident. Approximately an hour is well spent to fully appreciate the numerous images on display.

The museum is a strong advocate for numerous films, TV shows, and books that delve into the rich history of Varna. Here, in “Old Varna,” reside the timeless legends of Bulgarian wine. And this is no coincidence. Right here, 22 years ago, the national wine map in Bulgaria came into existence.

Visitors from around the globe, delegations, and guests of the city and Bulgaria flock to the museum to witness its wonders. Afterwards, they have the pleasure of indulging in the exquisite Bulgarian wines, as Varna and Bulgaria proudly carry on the legacy of winemaking from ancient times.
