Ivan Drasov

Ivan Todorov Drasov is a Bulgarian patriot, prominent public figure, and esteemed statesman. Participant in the First Great National Assembly (1879) as a Member of Parliament.
Ivan Drasov was born in Lovech on March 19, 1848. Todor Drasov, the father, was the inheritor of the affluent Drasov family. He possessed a substantial amount of wealth and engaged in trade with Vienna, Budapest, and Brasov.

Ivan Drasov attended the Upper Krai Mutual School “Holy Apostles” located in the Drastene neighborhood. Following his graduation, he pursued a career in commerce. Vanyo Terziata was a well-known figure among the residents of Lovech.

Played an active role in the efforts to establish a sovereign Bulgarian church. An intimate and trusted companion of Vasil Levski. Hristo Botev and Panayot Hitov were intimate acquaintances. He engaged in extensive correspondence with the revolutionary figures. Participated in a collaborative effort to edit the newspaper “Vazrazhdane”.

He was enlisted by the Russian command during the Russo-Turkish War (1877-1878). Following the second Liberation of Lovech, he was chosen by the inhabitants of Lovech to serve as the inaugural mayor of the city from August 31, 1877 until July 30, 1878. He established the groundwork for the local government in collaboration with the Provisional Russian Government.
He took part in the election of the inaugural Bulgarian prince as a Member of Parliament for Lovech in the First Great National Assembly. I am a Member of Parliament representing Teteven in the Second Ordinary National Assembly. Engaged participant of the People’s Liberal Party, specifically the Stambolovists faction.

From 1899 to 1901, he served as the district governor of Varna. He passed away in Varna on September 27, 1901.

Presently, a thoroughfare has been designated with his name within the urban area, and a memorial tablet has been affixed to his residence.
