Ref Number: 34
Euxinograde Palace is the former summer royal residence of the Bulgarian monarchs.
The palace construction started in 1882 and the place was named Sandrovo by Prince Alexander I Battenberg and it was later renamed to Euxinograde (combining the Greek word euxine – hospitable with the Slavonic grad – town or fortress) by Princess Maria Luisa, the wife of the next Bulgarian ruler H.M. King Ferdinand I of Saxe Coburg Gotha. It is still owned by the state, and foreign dignitaries stay here when they visit Varna.
Tours of the Palace and Grounds
You can now see the palace itself because there are extensive guided tours of the grounds; however, please see their website in the links tab in order to email the government so as to be included in the tour of the day.
The tours leads past the vineyards that produce Bulgaria’s most sought-after brandies and white wines and descend towards the coastline through the botanical gardens designed by French horticulturists for King Ferdinand at the turn of the nineteenth century and then onto the wondeful Euxionograde Palace.
