On Varna’s major commercial street, “Prince Boris I” boul., is a lovely ancient mansion that is a symbol of the little plaza known as “Sevastopol square” by everyone in Varna. The building was owned by Danail Manov, a wealthy grape and wine entrepreneur.
In 1925, he commissioned the architect Dabko Dabkov to design the elegant art deco style façade, and the sculptor Kiril Shivarov added wonderful plaster details and figural compositions on the roof, where one can also see the symbol of prosperity for Danail Manov’s family – the “grape.” Originally titled “Morsko oko,” the restaurant on the first floor was renamed “Sevastopol” after the Second World War and quickly became a popular gathering spot.
During the early 21st Century the building was transformed into one of the first McDonalds franchises in Varna , subsequently they moved on and its now back to its former look housing a commercial bank.
