The tiny structure of Varna's Christian temple of St. Paraskeva
Ref Number: 39
The tiny structure of Varna’s Christian temple of St. Paraskeva is situated in an area rich in thermal mineral waters and ancient pagan sanctuaries. A medieval church once stood in its current position. The temple is now located next to Varna’s History Museum. The temple is assumed to have been built at the end of the 18th century, but it is possible that it was built earlier. Its architectural style is similar to that of typical residences at the time. Perhaps this is why it has endured all terrible historical events over the years. So that its historic structure may be renovated at the turn of the century.
Varna’s second oldest temple is St. Paraskeva Church. It was built by an affluent Greek craftsman who told St. Paraskeva that if she returned him to his family, he would build her a chapel as a symbol of gratitude. Later, the Greek family departed town, and the temple gradually became empty. Baba Efthimia, who saw St. Paraskeva in her dream and begged her to rescue the church, spared it from destruction. As a result, it was continually reborn in order to continue existing in our time and serve as a vital delegate of history and spirituality.
