Temple St. Atanasii

Church “St. Athanasius” is the former bishop’s residence  in Varna. In its present form it was built in 1838 at the site of the burned ancient temple. It is understood from the marble slab placed over the front door of a temple following inscription in Greek: “The old church of St. Athanasius, who have not a sail tore up bombs, burned on 15 February 1836, was resumed in 1838 August 29. ” This was a Greek Orthodox church in the past which became Bulgarian Orthodox at the beginning of the XX century.
