The French Girls’ Boarding House (on Stephen Karadzha Street) was constructed at the turn of the 20th century (architect Michel Pernigoni) by the daughter of a French military commander who fought in the Crimean War in 1853–1856.
It is the first state music institute in Varna and was founded in 1944 by Decree No. 40 on November 6. Dobri Hristov, a prominent music educator, critic, composer, and academician, had the school named after him by decision No. 32 of the Presidium of the National Assembly in 1956. Nowadays it represents the College of Tourism and the School of Arts.
