Johann Baptist Homann (1663-1724) was a cartographer who established the renowned Homann Heirs publishing firm. He resided only in Bavaria, namely in Nuremberg, for the entirety of his existence. Originally, Johann pursued training to enter the priesthood, but later switched to Protestantism and began working as a notary.
This map has been reevaluated to confirm the accuracy of the maps showing the island offshore near Varna. In this particular example, the island is referred to as “olim,” along with many others located farther up the coast.
