Natural Science Museum

REF NR: 1814

The Museum is picturesquely located in the heart of the Sea Gardens and shows some of the most characteristic natural features of the northern Bulgarian Black Sea coast, from Romania down to Cape Emmineh, and it is divided into three main sections: geology, flora and fauna.

The last section includes some tertiary tusks of mammoths, mastodons, rhinoceroses and shark teeth, together with mollusc`s fossils from the Mesozoic Age.

The second department shows the most typical vegetation along the coastal Black Sea side and some of the most typical seaweeds.

The exhibition of the local fauna specimens is by far the most interesting department of this Museum. It demonstrates some very interesting and beautiful pieces of steppe models, Mediterranean, Asia Minor and Middle East wild life specimens, and a huge collection of local butterflies and moths.

The exotic specimens section illustrates tropical specimens like multicoloured butterflies, strange shapes of ocean mussels, sea hedgehogs and starfishes.

Natural-Science Museum or History Museum in Varna studies and popularizes the geology, flora and fauna of the Black Sea and the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. There are three sections: Geology, Flora and Fauna. The Earth formation and structure are displayed, life progress, growth and expansion on Earth, Mesozoic and Tertiary fossils, samples of minerals, the main species of the flora along the Black Sea coast, swamps and forests, diverse shapes, forms and types of vegetation as well as animal life in this area.
