This is the oldest boulevard in Varna and bears the name of the wife of the Tsar Ferdinand 1st, Princess Marie Louise, created after 1897, when the old Ottoman barracks, that used to stand there was demolished. According to the design of the engineer Pavel Karakoulakov this central street in Varna was created wide with a pedestrian part and a lot of trees and flowers.
The town hall issued a decree, according to which all the future houses should have rich and decorated facades. The first private buildings were erected for the homes of the officers from the Varna Regiment and eventually, bankers, merchants and architects created their own homes. Known as the "Street of the aristocrats" this European style boulevard is amoung one of the best examples of well-preserved Art Nouveau and Neo-Baroque architecture within Varna.
