
On the main shopping street in Varna “Prince Boris I” boul. stands a beautiful old house, which is a symbol of the little square, known by everybody in Varna as the “Sevastopol square”. The building was owned by a rich merchant of grape and wine producer, called Danail Manov.
In 1925 he commissioned the architect Dabko Dabkov to create the elegant art deco style façade, and the sculptor Kiril Shivarov added a fine the wonderful plaster details and figural compositions on the roof, where also one can observe the symbol of prosperity for the family of Danail Manov – being the “grape”. Initially there used to be a restaurant on the first floor, named “Morsko oko”, after the Second World War it was renamed to “Sevastopol” and rapidly became a popular place for meetings.
McDonalds
Today the name of the restaurant is that of McDonalds, but the historical meaning of the place remains unchanged.
