Art Gallery

REF NR: 1747

Varna Art Gallery has departments of painting, graphics and sculpture, aiming at showing the best by all Varna artists, as well as by most of Bulgaria’s other leading masters. The chronological arrangement charts clearly the development of Bulgarian pictorial arts from the beginning of the 20th century to present days. It was inaugurated on September 18, 1885.

The Gallery is the venue of an international graphics biennial, which started in 1979. The former boys’ high school, which houses the Art Gallery is an exquisite pseudo Gothic building and the three stories provide 3,000 sq m of exhibition space.

The Gallery possesses works by eminent Bulgarian artists, a fine collection of seascapes in which artists from Varna are represented best and a valuable collection of 17th century German and Dutch painters. The Gallery’s big hall has excellent acoustics and poetry can be recited or chamber music can be played there.

Varna Gallery keeps adding valuable works by Bulgarian and foreign artists to its collection, thus boosting constantly its popularity and role in the city’s cultural life.

Today,  Boris Georgiev Art Gallery encompasses the culture from the past and present and represents a nice bridge towards the future.
