Yosif Ivanov hadji Stoyanov (1880-1939)

The book named “Yosif h. Yosif Hadji Stoyanov is a member of the younger Bulgarian generation who, following the Liberation of Bulgaria, traveled to Germany to pursue further education. Upon returning to their beloved country, they successfully expressed their creative abilities. At this moment in history, Varna underwent a significant transformation. It transitioned from having an oriental aspect to being a contemporary European city. Yosif Hadji Stoyanov, an expert in hydroengineering and architecture, served as a municipal engineer and played a crucial role in the development of the city’s water supply infrastructure.

The book showcases structures created by Yosif Hadji Stoyanov during his time in private practice, using historical film of buildings and sketches. The buildings designed by Eng. Stoyanov are notable examples of the modern Secession style, distinguished by their elaborately decorated facades that stand out in the street. In addition, the book provides the genealogical history of the family, accompanied by archive images and documents.

Additionally, it centers around the year 1936, during which Yosif Hadji Stoyanov served as the mayor of Varna.

The Staircase to the Sea

In the 1920s, the construction of the staircase in front of the Northern Sea Baths in Varna took place, where engineer Hadji Stoyanov took an active part. The designed facility is impressive with smoothly descending curved alleys, in front of which the beautiful panorama of the sea is revealed.
