Ref Number: 29
Buildings in Odessa’s southern, coastline area. The most impressive is a public bath erected in the late third or early fourth century. It most likely replaced the Big Roman Baths, which were highly expensive and difficult to maintain and closed at the end of the third century.
The temple of the Thracian god-horseman Heros Karabazmos and the goddess Artemis Phosphorus is a tiny but significant structure.
It operated for centuries, from the Hellenistic period through the emergence of Christianity in the fourth century. The temple contained two excellent reliefs of the aforementioned dieties. They are dated between the 2nd and 1st centuries B.C. The Thracian horseman cult was one of the most popular in Thrace. There is a theory that it originated in the Odessos region.
