Varna’s rise to prominence at the turn of the twentieth century is reflected on the ground floor.
The second floor display details the city’s economic development via the formation of institutions including neighborhoods, schools, community centers, and a church-based national movement. Included in “Old Varna in Pictures” are pieces that captured a particular flavor of life in Varna around the turn of the twentieth century.
The Renaissance Museum in Varna showcases the city’s most significant phases of development during the Renaissance. The first floor depicts the role that Varna played in the Russian-Turkish wars and the city’s strategic location on the western shore of the Black Sea.The interior atmosphere of a mutual school, complete with period furnishings and fittings, has been recreated in one of the rooms on the upper floor. The Varna Renaissance Museum has Hadji Dimitar’s revolver and sword on exhibit.
The grave of victims of the Russo-Turkish wars, in addition to the various reproductions of historic weapons from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, is an intriguing historical artifact. The artists included in “Old Varna in Pictures” were drawn to Varna by the city’s unique vibe in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The Regional Historical exhibition in Varna has a department devoted to “Bulgarian Lands in the XV-XIX C.,” which includes a Renaissance exhibition.”
