The idea for a “Retro History Museum” dates back 13+ years, to when its founders bought a Russian automobile with the famed Zhiguli brand, also known in the auto industry as the VAZ 21013 modification.
The attractiveness of Togliatti is largely responsible for the museum’s current location after 10 years. It was the impetus for Tsvetan Atanasov, the museum’s founder and current owner, to begin collecting the vast array of objects that make up the museum’s now-famous permanent display.
Home appliances, automobiles, and motorbikes are all available for purchase or donation, and they’re all communist products. The time and energy put into a project is incomparable, and the financial investment is substantial, but the latter is more easily quantifiable.
Each vehicle and motorbike displays the indelible fingerprints of their dedicated and diverse team of restorers.
After many years of hard labor and meticulous planning, Mr. Tsvetan Atanasov’s idea of a “Retro Museum” was realized on May 1, 2015, when the museum first opened to the public. Located on four acres of Grand Mall, it has quickly become a popular tourist destination and is widely regarded as unparalleled on a global scale, according to both locals and tourists.
There are now around 60 automobiles and 15 motorbikes on display at the museum. The collection’s current trajectory and ultimate goal is to expand its motor vehicle and item holdings via gradual strengthening through exposure to the elements over time.
Alex, the exhibition manager, was told by a visitor that “this collection has taken many years and hundreds of thousands of Euros to put together; even today this is only part of what they have.”
“Retro Museum” aims to present and preserve the things of everyday life of the working people, the city in the socialist era in Bulgaria. It presents a basic outline of the life of the Bulgarians in the period 1944-1989. “This period which cannot be deleted lightly in our history, as each historical period it has its pros and cons, but the built in it is significant for our entire country, our mission is to keep the memories of that time alive.
After many years of feverish work and intense preparation the dream of Mr. Tsvetan Atanasov became reality as the “Retro Museum” all works attributed.
